brooks are very important. i have always been perplexed by issues that are supposedly green issues and how they intersect or don't with transit oriented development as it relates to parking or transportation, if it is through the housing element or someplace else, i think that conversation needs to happen. i did not see language here that relates to shelters. until we come up with something that really is going to house homeless people, we will continue to have people that are facing struggles and economic challenges. i think there needs to be some examination unhook of what the shelter use means. especially now that we have laws in place that are so draconian, it might lead to where people that don't have a place to stay go. there is the issue of keeping shelters open, operational costs. keeping shelters open during the day, that kind of thing so that people have a place to go. that is kind of a complicated issue, and i will defer those types of questions to the coalition on homelessness and folks like that. i

my name is helena brook and i'm director of the mental health board. with a group of people from mental health, we could collaborated and created the training that existed -- we co-collaborated and created the training that existed for the past 10 years. i applaud the continuation of training ever all the officers. the training that has been a collaborative effort between the police department and mental health has trained nearly 1,000 officers appropriately to help people with mental illness and help them get help. these don't make the front-page news. i want to emphasize that through the training from meeting the officers in the san francisco police department, we have a tremendous department that do care about the citizens of san francisco. during the past 10 years the department also funded research about the type of training and the type of calls that people get and the number of calls from people with mental illness. results show they found the training useful and led to a change in their attitude. many officers sate -- said it was the best train
